UPDATE: BRICK IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!

Thanks to A Dog’s Best Friend for the great work!!

A good looking “local boy” (to us) is in need of a forever home. Some good people at A Dog’s Best Friend in Oshawa, ONT have pointed me to this situation:

Brick will be 3 in the Spring. Brick is with a couple at present where they have had him since he was a puppy. He is wonderful with them and knows his commands and is wonderful on leash when approached by other dogs. Brick is extremely affectionate, but is scared of the rain when having to go the bathroom. Brick is very protective of his family and can be nervous around strangers,. He does have the potential to bite strangers entering the home, but has never bitten. The couple love him dearly but are having a baby and are unsure on Bricks behaviour since he is so protective of them. He can only go with a family that has this breed experience who can train him not to be so protective. When we met him we took him for a walk and he was great on leash, and loves to be petted, but in his home when your with the couple he will watch you. We are desperately looking for someone that can work with Brick. He is very affectionate when you get to know him and loves belly rubs, perfect on leash, and is scared of the rain

Again, for the right home, I’m sure we can arrange transport from where he is (we can easily get him into MI,OH,PA,NY etc.). My take is that someone needs to help him come out of his shell a bit, and I’m also sure that the rescue organization can be convinced that Boerboel experience isn’t required per-se, but protection breed experience would probably be required, or at least you’d want to demonstrate some pretty good experience in general canine behavior-mod (trainers?).

The fact that the rescue was able to take him for a walk, etc. is a great sign, in my humble opinion, and it sounds like just a matter of work and time to get him adjusted to a new, forever home.

Wow Ron; he looks very much like this guy; http://www.cavancreekboerboels.com/Dogs/Breeding/b2a.jpg

    Wonder if they are related?

Good luck to those that are working on getting this guy rehomed.

As of this AM I don’t know anything about the pedigree, but in talking to one of the rescue people, it appears that the breeder has been contacted but hasn’t yet stepped in — hopefully whoever they are they can lend a hand to help this guy find a new home.

I’m located in Ct if I can help with transport issues in the New England area.
He sounds very much like my Boerboel, got this thing about peeing in the rain. :-) )
Is there any info how he is with other dogs or cats etc?

    Jer

Hello I am located in the Southern MD area and very interested in Brick. Have you been able to locate a new home for him yet ? If not hope that you will consider us.
I grew up in a family who has always had a four legged family member :) . My dad has always been fond of boxers. When I finally was in a position to own a dog, i choose Sir Micheal Anthony Ruff. Ruff was Chow and German Shepard mixed that could be very playful and soft yet aggressive and independent at times. He remained out loved family member for 12 years. Three years Ruff passed. It has taken some time, but I think Ruff would not mind if we were to bring a new member into the family

Sorry, Chris, Brick is no longer available. I got busy over the holidays and have not yet updated that particular post when I heard the news. Sorry for the confusion, but there are some others around. Right now there is another dog being discussed on the Yahoo forum of another BB somewhere… If it’s far don’t panic, as we can possibly set up transport from one enthusiast/breeder to another.

    Good luck!
    Ron

Hi I just moved to cabbage town in downtown Toronto. I would love to be put on your foster care list if in need of any help. I have a two bedroom lg apt, dog friendly building and own a 130pd very friendly 9yrs old african boerboel. I was on the french bulldog rescue in Florida for many years. I am very responsible and have a big heart to help in any way I can, also open minded for adoption. Please let me know the steps I should take to fill out an application. Thanks

    Hi, Andrea!

We are not a rescue, per se, we are mostly just me, a guy who points out dogs in need and hopes other people can do the real “heavy lifting” of helping out. I have worked with a couple rescues in the past, and my current favourite is http://barlees.org as they give some of the tougher dogs such as Boerboels a chance. Please check out the site and fill in an application there, and they’ll be a great place to connect with as a real rescue dealing with the “real” dogs (I was just talking to someone at another rescue, who proudly stated they did NOT accept a Dogo as she was a bit of a handful, and I’m thinking “well, if the rescues don’t take her, who will??” :( ).

Good luck, and thanks for the interest!
    Ron
